Help me pick out a game!

This time around, I'm asking for advise on a game which I will receive for christmas. My mother/sis said they'd split on a game for me and I'm stoked... but I'm not sure what to get.

I've got a few ideas of games I'd like to give a whirl but can't decide. I'll list these games and give a few notes as to why I'm considering them. If you have any other suggestions please feel free to state them.

*I'm looking for PS3 games - games I already own are here. Already receiving Mirror's Edge as xmas gift.

Tomb Raider: Underworld (Action Adventure)
  • +Really enjoyed the other two titles done by this team
  • +Looks good, fun etc
  • -From reviews I hear it's short :(
DeadSpace (Survival Horrish)
  • +Looks fresh, kewl setting and characters
  • +Dig the combat (that I've seen)
  • -Not sure about the length
Eternal Sonata (RPG)
  • +Looks spectacular (visuals)
  • +Been tracking for a long time, very interested in title
  • -Heard from reviews that story, conversations are lacking
FarCry 2 (Shooter)
  • +Superb visuals
  • +Open world, vehicles, weapons, apparently very immersive
  • -Heard it takes a while to get into.
  • -Not positive about how gameplay holds up.
Pure (Racing)
  • +Looks good
  • +Reviews are generally positive
  • -May have enough offroad like racing with MSPR on my hands
Grid (Racing)
  • +Older title I've been putting off, very interested
  • +rather good reviews
  • -Not anticipating it as much as other titles listed.
Like I said, any suggestions beyond this list is accepted.

Prison Break - Solid Snake Style?

Sigh, this made me laugh when I read it so I thought I'd share for those who haven't seen it.

According to BBC, a -42 year old - Turkish inmate being held in a German prison - up and vanished.

Not shocking news right? There have been people who escaped prison before - sure! But, it's the way in which this guy managed to do it, that's the real story. See, in this particular prison the inmates work at creating stationary for various shops within the local vicinity and this inmate decided why not just up and leave with said stationary? Sealing himself into a 150cm by 120cm cardboard box he arranged to have it shipped out (with the rest of the stationary) to be picked up by courier.

With no one any the wiser, the box containing the inmate was loaded up with the rest of the goods by the weekly courier and departed for it's destination. Evidence shows that once away from the prison the man simply cut his way out of the box and vehicle's tarp (which housed the shipment) and simply jumped off to freedom.

The driver noticed the tarp flapping in the wind some time later and called the prison to report what seemed to of happened. The authorities believe that the man had it planned with outside help - saying that he was probably picked up by accomplices shortly after ditching his cardboard box.

At the end of the day we all get a good laugh and the chief warden was quoted as saying "I was not surprised that an escape happened on my watch. For years I had been asking for more security guards from the government. But now they'll have to listen."

Wonder if he actually played any MGS?

Gotta knock a little harder

In this Blog
|Random| - Blurb about random stuff
|Now Playing| - Whats happn' in the VG world

Allo all. :D This blog is a blog for the sake of writing something down. I really have no central point of which I'd like to focus on - rather just some random thoughts I've decided to slap into a post. To start things off, the title for this blog "Gotta knock a little harder" is a direct reference to the song by Yoko Kanno for the movie "Cowboy Bebop" - which I just had playing. The music composed by Kanno and performed by her band "The Seatbelts" as soundtrack groundwork for stuff like Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain is stellar stuff and really unique. It's not stuff I'd usually go for - as most of it is mix of random Japanese with bits of Jazz, techno and so on. But I totally dig it and just can't put it down :D Hella kewl stuff.

Next up, I got to see (a little while ago actually) "A beautiful Mind", an incredible movie with Russell Crow and Jennifer Connally. The story is about this genius mathematician who ends up having Schizophrenia (sees & interacts /w people who aren't there) and it totally mixes up his life.

Also got to catch "Gotham Knight" a 6 (or 7?) set of short films done in various anime styles all about batman. Detailing the myth of, as well as what people think of him as a "crusader" of sorts. I really dug seeing all the different visual takes on the character. It's directed by one of my fav doods Bruce Timm - who did the Batman Animated series - with Kevin Conroy taking up vocals of batman/bruce wayne (who also did the voice for batman on the Animated series).

Lastly, in the world of watching stuff, I got to catch some shows on the history channel on (mostly Canadians) and the battles of Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele and others. Rather interesting stuff all around really. They talked about battle plans, the tunneling under the battle grounds, aerial reconnaissance in a time where air planes were in their infancy and other intrigueing awesome topics. Kind of fitting as today is Nov 11 - remembrance day.

Spent quite a while going through Resistance 2 and loved it! Tho... it's hard as balls IMO! It seemed like I never had enough ammo and died twice as often as that! A bit sad to see that there are no usable vehicles what so ever in the game - which was an awesome part of the first one. Only being able to carry 2 weapons is also kind of a pain (the first you could carry every gun) but it also makes you think more. The bullseye Mark II seemed to be my constant fav - with the Auger Mark II coming in second. The Magnum with exploding bullets was nifty too. I've finished the single player campaign and jumped into it again for another go. One thing that really surprised me is the water! At first I thought it may... just may be partical based (as in millions of particles working together, instead of the appearance of that) but I'm positive it's faked. Faked or not I spent loads of time just watching the water chimera swim around as the movement of the water around them is just something insanely kewl. Weird I know, but w/e.

Fallout 3 also continues to devour my hours. I've got maybe 70% of the map explored, with places still hiding. I've recently found tenpenny tower and am still on the hunt for my father. As I continue to play the game I find out more about how it works. For instance, not too long ago I figured out that I can repair weapons/armor just by collecting multiples and then doing it myself! Ha, dunno how I missed that :P I've got my speech maxed, working on my repair and lockpick as I continue my romp through the world. I don't think I'll be putting it down any time soon.

Those two games take up most of my game time. Rockband 2 just sits there for now - I'm in one of those "pfft dun care" moods with RB atm. I dig into motorstorm PR too when I can, but FO3 still eats up the most of my time. Mirror's Edge is out today but I strongly believe that I'll leave it as a Christmas present so I can have some time to get other titles done and then have that to play during the holiday season.

I think I finished LBP... as no more levels are showing up? Huh, thought it would be longer. Still havn't collected everything but will continue to play. Would love to get online and see what others have made. That Gradius level looks mega awesome.

Ha, for a "random" blog I still seem to get a great amount written down... huh.

Keep it real sukkas.

Best CE ever!

In this Blog
|Best CE ever!| - Resistance2 offers up the goods!
|Obama| - A quick blurb about the events
|Now Playing| - What I'm playing, Thoughts
|Future Games| - Games coming, anticipating etc
|Last Note| -
finishing comments, bits.

|Best CE ever!|
To start things off, I'm going to let it be known just how very impressed I am with Resistance2's Collector Edition's package. The box it comes in is a good size and housed within it is; the game (with what I understand is a special limited edition cover, different from others? Have not confirmed that), a bonus Blu-Ray disc sitting in a sleeve, a hardcover artbook, an "exclusive" multiplayer skin and an intense chimera figure complete with it's own weapon!

I think I dig the figure the most. I generally don't go for the "CE" or "LE" editions of games unless I'm really anticipating a game and know that goods included are well worth the extra dough. Thus far, I've got only the MGS4 and R2 CE/LE bundles. Thinking Killzone2 (depending on goods included) might be my next, with Street Fighter 4 being another contender. Makes me wonder tho, when did the CE/LEs get so big? It seems like it use to be a rare thing and now it's as if you don't provide a special edition in addition to a standard version then there's something wrong. Eh? Ha.

So, weird thing. We here in Canada just finished an election for a new prime minister (kinda pointless as the numbers were almost exactly the same as last time) and yet I cared much more for the American election with Obama and McCain going head to head. After work I went on the net with CNN playing in the background - till I got bored with CNN's rambling and switched it over to watch some oldskool "Home Improvement". When that was over I switched back to CNN to see a big ol "News Flash - Obama Wins" kinda stuff going on. Kinda made me smile as I was sort of rooting for the dude. So the states have their first black president and we'll have to see what he's made of when he finially takes office in January, good for him.

|Now Playing|
Ahh, with an internet connection that hasn't been working and all the new games I seem to be collecting - I seem to be doing nothing but playing :D. Fallout 3 is stealing the most time from me as it is INSANELY ADDICTIVE. With Oblivion and now Fallout3 - Bethesda seems to becoming one of my fav devs. I spent a good few hours the other day freeing slaves from "Paradise Falls", eventually got sick of the sneaking around required to do such a task and instead took out the entire encampment of slavers (they "own" the slaves) and took great pleasure in doing so. The game is massive and I just can't describe the fun and escapism I get from playing it.

You'd think with so much time and effort being put into that - that I would be fulfilled and not need anything else eh? Well, as it stands I'm still going through MotorStorm Pacific Rift, which is thankfully MUCH better than my first impressions (after my first session with the splitscreen multiplayer). The tracks are pretty massive in scale and diversity, fitting into one of four elemental categories (fire, water, air, earth) they're all fresh and challenging. I have noticed that the crashes are a bit toned back - where as in the first game they were a main part, this time around they're a bit shorter and with less emphasis. The game does have an awesome photo mode tho! At anytime you hit pause, go into photo mode and move in any where you want to snap a great shot which you can export to the PS3 HD- I've currently got a nice shot as my PS3 wallpaper (look below). There's a decent track list for music but the fact that it includes support for custom music is even better :D I've loaded a few hundred MP3's onto my HD just for it! Loads of fun for some time to come I must say.

We can't forget one of the most charming games I've played... just about ever. LittleBigPlanet is in a league all it's own. I still haven't touched the create mode as I'm still going through the story and loving it to death. My cousin was over to play some new stuff and we spent like 3 hours on LBP, haha. Challenging at times but no matter how much we failed it was so fun to just keep going. The car races were a highlight - made me laugh like a retard. lol. My little sackboy - who's pretty much "Samuel L Jackson" ala Pulp Fiction with a frying pan in his hand has got to be my fav character in a game in a long time lol. I honestly can't wait to get it online and see the insane crap people are making for it :D

As I'm writing this, I haven't touched Resistance 2 but plan to after I post the blog.

|Future Games|
While there's a good number of games I've got and currently enjoying. There's always others which are just going to get left for another date - simply because I'm too busy with others atm or don't want to slap down the insane amount of cash needed for all of them. From what's out now, someday I plan on picking up (maybe when they're cheaper?) GRID, Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway, Tomb Raider Underworld, Dead Space and Eternal Sonata - if not more that I'm forgetting. But there also other titles coming along that I can't wait for. Mirror's Edge comes on the 11th (of Nov) but I think I'll just leave it for a Christmas present - which will give me some time to complete other games. My bro plans on getting Silent Hill: Homecoming for Xmas which is great as I'll get to play it without buying it! :D Killzone2 and Street Fighter 4 both come in February 2009, with inFAMOUS hitting "sometime" 2009 along side the Ghostbusters game and Batman: Arkham Asylum. While titles like FFXIIIvs and Beyond Good and Evil 2 are up in the air as to when they're coming. Team ICO's next project is still staying quiet but I bet that will be another I'll be looking forward to as well. SO! The future is good for gaming.

|Last Note|
Killzone 2's boxart has been revealed... and it's sweet!
Street fighter 4 is coming February 20, 2009!!!
Just over a month till the Dark Knight hits DVD/Blu-Ray
Still no "rename" for my blog, still trying to come up with something.
Saw "National Lampoon's HOMO ERECTUS" the other day... pretty much crap. A few things made me laugh (mostly the old guy) but it was lame for the most part. 2/10 :P
Speaking of Christmas, I SO want this, it's out now Batman FTW!:D. 108.

Have the last episode of "Birds of Prey" to finish and sadly that will be it for BoP. A "out of nowhere" title for me I rather enjoyed it and have become a fan of Ashley Scott because of it. The acting is spotty, the action weak but is totally worth checking out.
