Pre-E3 ideas and Top 3 series this generation

This blog is a mish-mash of various thoughts I've had / have wanted to jot down. It's been a while since my last blog and just as long since I've been active with the internet and gaming as well. Been living life, having good times and just plain avoiding anything out of the most simple time wasters. It's allowed me to just simmer and it's been good.

With that out of the way, I'd like to start in on E3 :)

Beginning in like... 4days? I think it is.  E3 2010 is amping up to be a big show as very little has been leaked out this year and companies are even releasing some big hitting news before the show even gets on with it's main events! I can't wait to see what they've got lined up for behind the curtain showings. I think this year, among other things will be hugely focused on motion tech as both Sony and Microsoft are prepping their unique takes on the tech. I also see Sony pushing 3D more as something they're offering to gamers; but something I've been wondering about and speculating over may be more of a kewl point for the show if it does actually make it.

I'm talking of the PSN and the long rumored plans for Sony to break out with PS2 emulation for EVERY PS3 via software (they've been working on it for a while) and the ability to download PS2 games which may or may not be a part of their strategy of a premium PSN service. I hope it's offered to everyone, if it does come, but I can see something like that being a premium thing they'd charge for :S We'll just have to wait and see.

PS2 games on PSN in 2010? That's be hellish sweet
With that kind of thing living off of a rumor, as does the news of a PSP2 and new iteration of just about every system out there... rumors can also be a retardedly bad thing. For instance I've seen rumors of Nintendo's 3DS being a system that'll overpower the Wii by more than 2X... which I think is completely ridiculous and totally not Nintendo's style at all. There's also rumors of Microsoft dropping the Xbox name in favor for something else? Give me a break. So much garbage going around that apparently some people believe without even questioning where these rumors were made up. Sigh.

There's a huge list of games I can't wait to see from the show including Mafia 2, StarCraft 2, Fallout New Vegas, Rage, Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Pirates of the Carribean : damed (something forget the name :P), Toy Story 3 (lol yeah Im pumped for the game), Crysis 2, the new Castle Vania, Enslaved, Golden Sun DS, Metroid Other M, the new Zelda title, Deus Ex 3, Kane & Lynch 2, Kindgom Hearts BbS, GT5, Ghost of Sparta, infamous 2, Killzone 3, Motorstorm 3 (aka Apocalypse), Rockband3, LBP 2, The Last Guardian, Batman Arkham 2, Assassins Creed Brotherhood and more... and thats only what's already known to be there! No doubt we'll get new announcements for new games at teh show!!!

Oh... and the booth babes... can't forget them :)

Yay for booth babes ;)

Top 3 series this gen:

Next, I'd like to do a little segment and would love to hear your thoughts on it as well as your input as to your choices for this category. Think, what are the top 3 series/franchises for you in this generation of games? The generation of course includes PS3, 360, Wii, PSP and DS. Here's my thoughts:

3rd Place Bioshock
Bioshock's setting is probably the first thing that sets it apart from other games. Not only is the idea of  a city under-water a fresh one, but it was done with such style that you felt like you didn't want to leave... even if horribly mutated freaks were trying to kill you at every corner. While the ending of each game leaves something to be desired... helping out the residents, saving little sisters, it all leaves an imprint on you.

2nd Place: Uncharted
Talk about a series that oozes personality. The game works very well at it's core, but it's the characters and their adventure that make this series what it is. They're (the characters) all believable with strengths and faults aplenty whom you follow through ups and downs in a romp that's rivaled by very few in the industry. Indiana Jones aint got nuthin on Nathan Drake.

1st Place: Mass Effect
When we're talking about characters  though... we need to mention Mass Effect :) The Bioware team are dark magic gawds who weave a narrative complete with characters so real you forget it's a game you're playing as you follow them through a journey as epic as the galaxy itself and back. I've never been sucked into a series so hard in my entire gaming life.

Lastly, I'd like to share some recent pickups.

First off, I've got a new PSP. :) It came about because of two factors. The first, my original PSP's UMD drive just up and died on me :( Which left me unable to play discs. With the initial thought of seeing if any news regarding a PSP price drop or a PSP2 would surface at E3, I had no plans on picking up a new PSP so soon. Then... I randomly happened to slip into our local "Zellers" and spot a PSP (2000 model) pack including Daxter and other goodies on sale for $99... so I got it. :) A nice silver PSP now serves as my main mobile gaming device. I've still got the original PSP tucked away, hope to try and replace the UMD drive at some point in the future.

Mmm, sexy silver

Next, another new mobile gaming device... tho this one was purchased on it's awesome factor alone :D

Dude, SNES on the GO? YES! :)

If you can't tell from the pic... It's a portable SNES :D Dubbed the Yobo FC16Go model 2, It's about the size of a brick (not uber portable), has stereo sound, all - pretty solid and well functioning buttons, a rechargeable lithium Ion battery, a full color screen (very similar to that of the DS) and best of all, an original SNES slot in the back - meaning you slip original SNES game cartridges into the unit to play! No emulation yo! If you're interested it also doubles as a standard SNES as well with it's video/audio out and even comes with 2 wireless SNES controllers :) I am just thrilled with it and have been using it quite a bit thus far.

Recently, my sis picked up a Wii and we've been scouring forums and asking people what games would be great for it. There's a small list of games that seem really kewl and we've already gone bargain bin diving to get some we're interested in. Thus far I've picked up No More Heroes 2, Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers (sounded hilarious), Guilty Gear XX Accent Core and Metroid Prime Trilogy CE. My sis picked up New! Super Mario Bros Wii and Cursed Mountain. Buying all of those titles goes against my idea of not buying new games... but they were cheaper... and really we need something to play on the system.

Sexy packaging, can't wait to sink my teeth into it.

Speaking of that idea. I've been doing alright. As Red Dead Redemption has been the only "New" game I've purchased in quite some time. It's really good to, I'm enjoying it. I did pick up Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction as a pack in with a new Dualshock 3 controller of which I was excited to find :) I also nabbed Super Street Fighter IV (how could I not?) and got The Saboteur  for $14 while shopping on a little trip we took to see my sis graduate university. So yeah, some more titles for the shelf... but I've been trying really hard to get more titles done! I jumped back into Brave Story: New Traveler (PSP) and Mirror's Edge (PS3) hoping to complete each in no time. Resistance Retribution on the PSP annoys me to no end... and yet I'm so close to finishing it... it's just that every time I boot it up I want to throw it out the window.

Lastly, a non-gaming item :) I got my hands on a copy of the seasons 1-5 box-set for The Office (the American version), a show that entertains me to no end. Can't wait to see some of the older episodes I've missed.

Holy crap I love this show
Peace sukkers, E3 will bring more blogs :P
